Once you’ve earned the big welcome bonus, don’t stop there. To extend your mile, you should use your credit card as much as you can for regular purchases. Since most flight cards offer at least one mile for every dollar you spend, using your card for daily purchases is an easy way to build your balance without having to resort to extravagant gestures.

Many large airlines offer shopping space that allows you to earn extra miles with just a click. The Southwest Rapid Rapid Rewards purchase portal, for example, offers anywhere from 1 to 10 miles per dollar spent on any purchase you make per portal.
